 As an alternative to staying in more
expensive Amsterdam, we booked a hotel in Haarlem, just a short, easy
train ride away. Haarlem is a beautiful town, and the old part
of town is compact enough that everything is within easy walking
distance. We were staying over for a few days at the start of
another trip to recover from jet lag, and on our last day, we took an
early train to Amsterdam, stored our luggage in a locker at the Central
Station, and had the day in Amsterdam. (The recently renovated Van
Gogh Museum is a must!) The Flamboyant restaurant in Haarlem has
great Rijstaffel -- an Indonesian banquet consisting of over a dozen
different dishes and condiments (enlarge image for address) |
