Some temples always have resident elephants on its grounds and we learned they send them off for a month about every Dec. to Periyar for Rand R! We had been reading in our morning papers that they were having difficulty getting the elephants into the truck for transport. We happened to go to that temple on a day when they were trying again. It was an amusing sight to see: the truck backed up to a platform and lines of about men on either side of the truck pulling on a rope attached to the elephant trying to get the elephant into the truck. We read that they succeeded the next day, using a tranquilizer
